Blood Disorders in Pregnancy

 

Pregnancy may increase the risk of certain disorders such as blood clots (hyperlink) and iron deficiency (hyperlink). Other pre-existing conditions such as thalassaemia, bleeding disorders, known clotting disorder (thrombophilias) may become more severe during pregnancy and requires the combined attention of numerous specialists to ensure a safe pregnancy, delivery and post-partum health.

The Blood Unit’s Haematologists Dr Herbert and Dr Kenealy have expertise in management of these disorders in pregnant patients, and work closely with your obstetrician and GP to ensure these conditions are managed appropriately in pregnancy.
